Why the right domain matters for a non-profit
Donors, grant panels and partners judge credibility in seconds, and a professional web address is part of that first impression. A dedicated domain also means a matching email address ([email protected]) instead of a free webmail account, which materially improves trust and deliverability when you send appeals and reports.
Where NGOs and NPOs can get a domain cheaply or free
- .org.za — the South African namespace intended for non-profits, registered at a low annual fee through any accredited registrar.
- Grant and platform programmes — some website builders and Google for Nonprofits partners include a domain for verified organisations.

Keep ownership in your organisation’s name
Whoever registers the domain should do so in the NGO’s registered name, with login details the organisation holds. A domain is an asset — never let it sit only in a volunteer’s personal account.
